Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo Switch Sports Resort arrives on October 22, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. In a new post on its official site, the company presented the new and returning sports and said the game brings together 12 sports to play solo, with a friend, on the same couch or online.
What Nintendo confirmed
According to the official announcement, the game is a Switch 2 exclusive and uses motion controls, the trademark of the Switch Sports line and, before it, of Wii Sports. The promise is a package of varied sports, designed both for quick family matches and for playing with friends over the internet.
The list of sports published by Insider Gaming includes boxing, table tennis, archery, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf, thumb wrestling, skateboarding, power cruising (jet ski rides) and prop plane (flying a propeller plane). Insider's text speaks of 12 new sports but lists more titles, because it also includes jump rope. Nintendo, for its part, only says "12 sports," and that is the number that counts as official.
Why the game matters for Switch 2
Motion-controlled sports games have helped define Nintendo's image since the Wii, and Switch Sports Resort is one of the titles showing how the company wants to use the new hardware for this kind of social game. Since the launch is exclusive to Switch 2, it also works as one more argument for anyone still deciding whether to buy the console, and it lands in the holiday window, when games with broad family appeal tend to concentrate sales.
Nintendo's text also invites players to "warm up" before launch, presenting the sports that debut and those that return, which reinforces that the game mixes novelty and nostalgia.
What is still unknown
- Price: the sources consulted do not give the game's price. Check the Nintendo store in your country, since prices vary by region.
- Online details: Nintendo confirms online matches, but the available excerpts do not explain player limits, subscription requirements or modes.
- Final sport list: there is a difference between the official count (12) and the outlets' list (13 names, counting jump rope), so it is worth waiting for the game's full official page.
What to do before launch
Anyone planning to play with family should check which accessories are needed for local matches with more than one person, since the game is built for multiplayer in the same space. Official information on controls and modes should become clearer closer to October 22, and Portal GTA 6 will update this article if Nintendo releases a price or new details.
Meanwhile, Nintendo's calendar for the end of the year remains busy: Switch 2 also gets other releases and demos in the coming weeks that we have already covered on the portal.
